A Message from the Navy Surgeon General: Medical Service Corps 70th Birthday

Official U.S. Navy photo

I am honored to join in the celebration of the 70th birthday of the Navy Medical Service Corps on Aug 4, 2017. From the initial establishment of the Corps onward, generations of Medical Service Corps officers have supported the Navy and Marine Corps fighting teams through decades of trials and triumph, ensuring fast and effective support even in the most austere locations.

Today, more than 3,000 active duty and reserve Medical Service Corps officers serve throughout the world and care for our Sailors, Marines, family members, and retirees. There have been innumerable achievements and contributions from Medical Service Corps officers whether serving at sea, embedded with the USMC, in military treatment facilities, or in research units around the globe.

Medical Service Corps officers have been rightly recognized as exceptional and outstanding leaders in their respective fields of military medical operations, medical sciences and healthcare administration over the last seven decades. As proudly in its name, the Medical Service Corps epitomizes “Service” in every location and in the thousands of officers who have proudly served in the Corps, gallantly supporting the Navy’s objectives throughout the world in peace and war.

Please join me in celebrating the historical accomplishments and the 70th birthday of the Medical Service Corps. Happy birthday, shipmates! I’m proud of you and honored to serve with you.
