Navy Medicine Personnel Spend Armed Forces Day Giving WWII “Honor Flight” Veterans a Hero’s Welcome

WWII “Honor Flight” veterans from the D.C. Metro area visit the Nation’s Capital on Armed Forces Day.

Editors Note: Even though Memorial Day is still a few days that didn’t stop Washington D.C. area Navy Medicine personnel from spending this past Armed Forces Day giving a hero’s welcome to WWII “Honor Flight” veterans from across America who visited our nation’s capital to visit the WWII Memorial and several others.

Of special note was 91 year old retired Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Loren “Devil Doc” Hellickson from Silver Spring, Maryland proudly wearing a green corpsman t-shirt, who shortly after graduating high school saw  his first combat action against the Japanese at Guadalcanal, while serving with the 2nd Marine Division.

Honor Flights are dedicated to transporting to Washington, D.C.  as many United States military veterans as possible to see the memorials of the respective war(s) they fought in at no cost to the veterans.
