Navy Medicine in Focus

Sailors from U.S. Naval Hospital Guam spent a few hours with retired Lt. Gen. Lawrence F. Snowden, a company commander on Iwo Jima and the senior surviving officer of the battle. Snowden was in Guam to participate in the annual memorial, called the Reunion of Honor, held on location in Iwo Jima. During the interview he shared stories about Iwo Jima and explained that he holds a special place in his heart for Navy Corpsmen and USNH Guam. Medical Staff from the hospital cared for him when he was injured during the battle of Iwo Jima that sent him off the island. Snowden also served with the 3d Marine Division on Guam serving with the 3d Marines and 9th Marines respectively until December 1945. Snowden retired from the Marine Corps after more than 37 years of service.
